High blood cholesterol, known as hyperlipidemia in medical parlance, is a serious health condition which should not be ignored. There are several ways to cure high Cholesterol naturally. Read on to learn about the proven natural cholesterol remedies to keep you cholesterol in control.

It is very important to keep an eye on your cholesterol levels since the ill effects of high cholesterol are really dangerous for your health. High Cholesterol causes narrowing and hardening of the arteries and puts you at risk of developing serious and life threatening health conditions like angina, coronary heart disease, heart attack, and stroke.

Statins are the most commonly prescribed medicines to lower your cholesterol levels. Although safe and effective, statins may cause side effects like muscle aches and depletion in the levels of Coenzyme Q10, a vitamin-like substance which is needed for basic functioning of cells. But, there are number of natural ways to keep your bad cholesterol (LDL) under check and increase the level of good cholesterol (HDL).

Natural Cholesterol Remedies

1. Niacin, commonly known as vitamin B3 has been shown to lower the levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) and increase the levels of good cholesterol (HDL). Food sources of niacin include dairy products, eggs, cereals, fish, lean meat, legumes and nuts.

2. Regular exercise also helps in lowering cholesterol by helping in maintaining or losing weight. Being overweight tends to increase the amount of bad cholesterol in the blood. Exercise stimulates enzymes that help in moving the bad cholesterol from the blood to the liver, from where it is finally eliminated.

3. Omega 3 fatty acids are known to lower the bad cholesterol levels and boost up good cholesterol levels. Oily fishes like mackerel, sardine, herring and salmon are very good sources of omega 3 fatty acids. For vegetarians, flax seeds, walnuts, almonds and other nuts are excellent sources of omega 3 fatty acids.

4 Regular consumption of soluble dietary fiber has shown to be very effective in lowering the levels of bad cholesterol. Pectin, a type of soluble fiber is particularly useful in lowering the levels of bad cholesterol in our blood. Apples, grapefruits and berries are good sources of pectin. Other sources of soluble fibers include oats, legumes, grains and green leafy vegetables.

5. Kitchen herbs and spices like garlic, onion, turmeric and fenugreek seeds also help in lowering LDL levels, and at the same time effectively boosting the HDL levels.

Most of all remember that high blood cholesterol is particularly more dangerous when it is oxidized.  Simply stay away from excessive stress, and smoking. Consumption of excessive alcohol is also bad for people with cholesterol problems as it helps to speed up the process of oxidation, so stay away from alcohol or consume alcohol sensibly!

A diet rich in natural antioxidants is very beneficial to keep your cholesterol in control. From now on simply follow these natural cholesterol remedies religiously. Cure high cholesterol naturally by regular exercise and by eating the right diet.
