According to the Federal Drug Administration (FDA), consuming about 2 tablespoons of olive oil daily may reduce your risk of heart disease. The vitamin E in olive oil is an antioxidant. In addition, monounsaturated fatty acids are less easily damaged by oxygen than other types of fat. They are there-fore less likely to produce free radicals, which damage cell membranes and contribute to several diseases.

When taken internally, olive oil stimulates the metabolism, promotes healthy digestion and lubricates the mucous membranes. It can also be applied externally to treat dry skin and is great for alleviating eczema and psoriasis.

Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health and the Athens School of Public Health discovered that women who consumed olive oil more than once a day had a 25% lower risk of breast cancer

When I'm on a tight budget I tend to skip buying olive oil (it's quite expensive here in the Philippines), but I think I'll scrimp on some other item... Thanks for sharing!
